Diethylhexyl Butamido Triazone (HEB, UVB) is an oil-soluble organic UV filter supplied as an off-white to beige powder for sunscreen formulation.

HEB is used mainly as a high-efficiency UVB absorber with peak absorbance around 311 nm. It also contributes some near-UVA coverage and is useful for improving SPF when combined with complementary UVA and broad-spectrum filters.

The filter is highly photostable and has good compatibility with oil-phase sunscreen systems, making it suitable for high-SPF emulsions, anhydrous sunscreen formats, sunscreen sticks, and color cosmetics with UV protection.

Product Description: Diethylhexyl Butamido Triazone is a modern triazine-type organic sunscreen filter. Its strongest function is UVB absorption, with maximum protection around 311 nm, so it is normally used as part of a filter system rather than as a complete standalone sunscreen. In practical formulation it pairs well with UVA filters such as DHHB or avobenzone-stabilized systems and broad-spectrum filters such as BEMT to build higher SPF and better UVA/UVB balance.

The material is powder-form and oil soluble, so the main formulation task is complete dissolution or uniform oil-phase dispersion before emulsification. Incomplete dissolution can reduce film uniformity and may create graininess or recrystallization risk in finished sunscreen products.

Usage: Face and body sunscreens, daily UV-protection creams, sunscreen sticks, anhydrous balms, sunscreen sprays with a suitable oil phase, tinted sunscreens, foundations, primers, and color cosmetics requiring UVB/SPF contribution.

Mixing method:

- Add to the oil phase and heat with suitable cosmetic oils/esters until fully dissolved or uniformly dispersed.

- Practical processing is typically around 80-90°C, or high enough to dissolve the filter in the selected oil phase. Avoid unnecessary long high-temperature holding after dissolution.

- Combine with oil-soluble solvents or UV-filter solvents such as C12-15 alkyl benzoate, dibutyl adipate, coco-caprylate/caprate, caprylic/capric triglyceride, octocrylene, homosalate, octisalate, or other formula-compatible emollients after confirming solubility and regulatory fit.

- For emulsions, dissolve in the oil phase before emulsification; for sticks and balms, dissolve before wax-network setting. Confirm final SPF/UVA-PF by testing the finished product.

Usage rate: 0.5-10%

Maximum recommended use level: 10%. Typical starting range is 1-5% as a UVB/SPF booster, adjusted according to the full UV-filter system, target SPF, solvent capacity, skin feel, and local regulations.

Product characteristics: Off-white to beige powder; organic UV filter; purity 98%; melting point 92-102°C.

Solubility: Oil soluble. Insoluble in water; incorporate through the oil phase or anhydrous phase.

Storage: Store tightly closed at room temperature, protected from heat, light, moisture, and contamination.
