Perfluorocarbon liquid for skin‑conditioning and oxygen‑delivery concepts; use as dispersed phase; immiscible with water/oils.
Perfluorodecalin is an ultra-inert perfluorocarbon liquid used in cosmetics as a skin‑conditioning solvent and oxygen carrier.
It dissolves unusually large amounts of gases (especially oxygen and CO₂) while remaining immiscible with water and common oils, so it needs emulsification or encapsulation to use in formulas.
In practice it supports ‘oxygenating’ skincare concepts and post‑procedure care; efficacy in finished cosmetics depends on oxygen loading, droplet size, packaging barrier, and fill conditions.
Usage: Serums, creams/lotions, masks and post‑procedure soothing products; skin‑conditioning and oxygen‑delivery concepts.
How to mix: - Disperse as a fine phase in an emulsion (PFD nanoemulsion) or encapsulated system; immiscible with water/oils. - Optional oxygenation: pre‑chill to 5–10°C, gently sparge medical O₂ through neat PFD 15–30 min/L (fine bubbles). - Keep processing ≤40°C; avoid high shear that off‑gasses and avoid vacuum deaeration after oxygen loading. - Fill under O₂ or purge headspace; minimize headspace and use foil/aluminum‑laminate or true airless packs for best O₂ retention. - Verify as needed with a non‑aqueous‑rated optical O₂ probe.
Usage rate: 0.5–5%
Product Description: Clear, colorless, odorless, high‑density liquid; chemically inert (perfluorocarbon).
Solubility: Immiscible in water and natural/silicone oils; use emulsifiers to disperse in aqueous or silicone systems.
Storage: Store cool (15–25°C), tightly closed. If oxygenated, minimize headspace and use barrier packaging.
