Polyvinylpyrrolidone K30 (PVP-K30) is a water-soluble synthetic polymer used as a tablet binder, granulation aid, film-forming polymer, and dispersing/solubilizing excipient for food supplement and pharmaceutical solid dosage manufacturing.

This SKU is the K30 viscosity grade. The COA K value specification of 27-32 identifies the K30 grade and makes it suitable for common wet granulation, dry-binding support, and coating-assist applications where balanced binding strength, processability, and tablet disintegration are required.

PVP-K30 is used as a functional excipient. It is not positioned as a nutritional active ingredient; its role is to improve powder cohesion, granule strength, tablet hardness, film formation, and dispersion uniformity in finished supplement or pharmaceutical products.

Product Description: PVP-K30, also known as Povidone K30, is a nonionic polymer of N-vinylpyrrolidone. In tablet manufacturing, it can be used as an aqueous binder solution for wet granulation or as a dry binder in direct-compression systems. When dissolved and applied during granulation, it helps bind active ingredients and excipients into stronger granules, improving compressibility, tablet integrity, and resistance to friability.

As a film-forming polymer, PVP-K30 can support simple coating systems, granule coating, taste-masking systems, and surface-dusting reduction. It can also assist wetting and dispersion of poorly wettable powders in instant powder blends, sachets, capsules, and tablets. It is not a classical surfactant emulsifier, so dispersion benefit should be verified in the customer's actual formula.

Application Typical use level Formulation purpose
Wet granulation binder 0.5-5% Improve granule strength, tablet hardness, and friability resistance.
Direct-compression dry binder 1-10% Support compact integrity when wet granulation is not used.
Film-forming or coating support 2-10% Form clear films, reduce dusting, and help carry pigments or actives in coating liquids.
Dispersing / wetting aid 0.1-5% Improve wetting and distribution of difficult powders in selected systems.

Usage: Suitable for tablets, granules, capsules, supplement powder blends, sachets, wet granulation systems, direct-compression formulas, and simple coating or taste-masking systems.

Mixing method:

- For wet granulation, add PVP-K30 slowly into purified water under moderate stirring and mix until fully dissolved before use as a binder solution.

- Avoid dumping the full powder amount into water at once, as this can cause lumping and slow hydration.

- Typical binder-solution concentration is about 5-15% w/w, adjusted by viscosity, sprayability, granulation equipment, and target granule strength.

- For direct compression, pre-blend thoroughly with filler or the main powder phase to avoid local over-concentration.

- Optimize by tablet hardness, friability, disintegration, dissolution, granule flow, and drying performance.

Usage rate: 0.1-20%

Higher levels can increase binding strength, compact integrity, and film formation, but excessive binder may slow disintegration or dissolution, increase tackiness during granulation, and extend drying time.

Product characteristics: White to yellowish-white powder. COA specification: K value 27-32; moisture max 5%; pH 3-7 at 5% in water; N-vinylpyrrolidone max 0.1%; residue on ignition max 0.1%; nitrogen 11.5-12.8%; heavy metals as Pb max 10ppm.

Solubility: Soluble in water. Suitable for aqueous binder solutions and selected hydroalcoholic systems, depending on solvent ratio, regulatory requirements, and finished product type.

Storage: Store tightly closed in a dry area. Protect from moisture and avoid prolonged exposure to air to maintain powder flow and binder performance.
