Ethyl Ferulate is commonly used in sunscreen formulations. Since it can act as an antioxidant, it can reduce UV-induced erythema well, resulting in a large increase in UVA/UVB values when tested for SPF/PA by in-vivo method. From the in-vivo test, it was found that from the original formulation using OMC. 7%, which gives about 25 SPF after switching to Ethyl Ferulate at 0.7%. It still gives the same SPF (SPF 25), but can help the formula feel better, not greasy, like the OMC formula used.
