High-purity Squalane emollient that delivers lightweight, non-greasy moisturization, barrier support, and elegant slip
Squalane is a high-purity synthetic emollient that mimics the skin's own lipids while delivering lightweight, non-greasy moisturization for a wide range of leave-on and rinse-off formulations.
This synthetic grade is a fully saturated, highly stable with excellent oxidative resistance, very low odor, and a fast-spreading, dry-silky skin feel, suitable for facial care, body care, sun care, color cosmetics, and hair products.
Can be combined with esters, triglyceride oils, and silicone alternatives to fine-tune slip, cushion, and after-feel in modern light-texture formulas.
From a formulation perspective, Synthetic Squalane behaves as a versatile, skin-friendly backbone oil that supports both barrier repair and sensorial optimization. Its low viscosity and narrow molecular weight distribution help it spread quickly and evenly, improving product playtime and reducing greasiness compared with many vegetable oils.
- Enhances skin barrier integrity and helps reduce transepidermal water loss by filling gaps in the intercellular lipid matrix, improving smoothness and suppleness in dry and sensitive skin types.
- Provides a light, elegant emollient base for serums, oils, and creams, improving spreadability and reducing tack from heavier lipids while maintaining a non-comedogenic profile at typical use levels.
- Improves pigment dispersion and payoff in color cosmetics, supporting even laydown of foundations, sticks, and lip products while maintaining long-wear comfort.
- Supports hair care applications as a light conditioning oil that adds softness, frizz control, and shine without heavy build-up, suitable for both leave-on and rinse-off formats.
- Offers excellent oxidative, thermal, and pH stability compared with unsaturated squalene or many natural oils, making it suitable for systems exposed to air, light, and repeated heating during processing.
Usage: Emulsions (creams, lotions, fluid serums), anhydrous facial oils and treatment serums, balms and sticks, sun care, color cosmetics, scalp and hair oils, and rinse-off cleansers where light emolliency and improved spreadability are desired.
Mixing method:
- Add to the oil phase of emulsions; can be heated with oils and esters up to around 80°C as required by the base system.
- For cold-process systems or heat-sensitive actives, it can also be post-added during cool-down and mixed until homogeneous.
- Compatible with most natural and synthetic oils, esters, and silicone alternatives; can be used as a carrier for oil-soluble actives or fragrances, and as a lightweight replacement for heavier vegetable oils in anhydrous systems.
Usage rate: 1-20%
Can be used at lower levels (1-5%) to boost slip and sensory in emulsions, or at higher levels (5-20%) in facial oils, serums, balms, and hair oils depending on the desired richness and skin feel.
Product characteristics: Clear, colorless to very pale yellow, low-odor liquid oil with light, fast-spreading, non-greasy skin feel.
Solubility: Oil-soluble; miscible with most cosmetic oils, esters, and silicone alternatives; insoluble in water.
