Water-in-Oil Balance™ (e.q. Mirasil Balance)
Promotes stable water-in-oil and water-in-silicone emulsions (HLB ≈ 5)
Water-in-Oil Balance™ (e.q. Mirasil Balance) (Cetyl PEG/PPG-10/1 Dimethicone)
Primary Functions
-
Emulsifier: Promotes stable water-in-oil and water-in-silicone emulsions (HLB ≈ 5).
-
Skin Conditioning: Imparts a silky, non-greasy slip and improves spreadability.
-
Surfactant/Cleansing: Lowers interfacial tension for even product distribution.
Typical Usage Levels
-
Practical Range: 1–3 wt % in most leave-on emulsions (foundations, BB/CC creams, lotions); cold-process friendly.
-
Extended Range: Up to 5–10 % in heavier creams or rinse-off products, subject to stability testing.
Formulation Tips
-
Phase & Temperature: Add to the oil or silicone phase at ~60–70 °C. Cold-process is possible if mixing energy is sufficient.
-
Mixing: Use moderate to high shear to achieve fine droplet size and long-term stability.
-
Compatibility: Broadly compatible with oils, UV filters, pigments, and actives thanks to its non-ionic, branched-chain structure.
Usage: As a binder for water and oil and silicone, can be used in all formulas.
How to mix: Mix in oil well. Then the water is gradually added to the oil. Please read further details above, the formula should include 1% Magnesium Sulfate to help increase the stability of the Water-in-Oil Emulsion.
Usage rate: 0.1-4% (1-2% recommended for most formulas)
Product characteristics: Clear, thick, light yellow liquid.
Solubility: Can be dissolved in oil.
Storage: Can be stored at room temperature. But close the bottle cap tightly. Then completely protected from sunlight or heat.
